This design is unique in the moulded commutators Industry as there is no moulding compound between the copper segments and the steel reinforcing rings, therefore there is direct contact. A polyimide film of some hundredth mm ensures their insulation.The dimensional stability is excellent under the effect of speed and temperature, and this performance is remarkably continuous throughout the series production. With the "RX" commutator : • the segment movements are maximum of about 1 micron and usually undetectable. • the ovality distortions are less than 10 microns and are difficult to measure because of merging into tolerance of the rotor. A remarkable dimensional stability, at distortions level that do not disturb the commutation, allows maximum brush life and also enables replacement with limited maintenance which can be grouped together with other mechanical components of the motor.
